At the high school, many of us miss our former Assistant Principal.  Ed Frick is an amazing administrator and our Middle School is truly lucky to have him.  Although, Mr. Frick is no longer in the high school, he regularly shares resources with the hs faculty to help us enhance our teaching practices.  The following is an excerpt from an email in which he shared an amazing resource.  As always - Thank you, Mr. Frick.

I know some of you use or know of the Khan Academy and the plethora of videos featured there.  Now TED-Ed on Wednesday launched an educational website featuring lessons based on its original animated videos for grades K-12. Each lesson includes a three- to eight-minute video, multiple-choice quizzes, open-ended questions and links to related information. In addition, teachers can choose to "flip" the video and create customized lessons. TED-Ed's Lessons Worth Sharing beta version currently features video lessons on numerous topics.

This Saturday, the Donegal High School Future Business Leaders will be holding a food drive to benefit Water Street Ministries.

Food Needed includes:

• Food items for Easter: canned fruit, mashed potatoes, canned yams
• Cereal
• Sugar (5 lb bag)
• Sugar substitute
• Canned fruit
• Juices (at least 64oz) Vitamin C, fortified, non-refrigerated
• Coffee creamer (dry bulk)
• Coffee

Alexis Weber named A Junior League of Lancaster Business Plan Competition Finalist

Entrepreneurship students worked diligently throughout the first semester to create a new business.  Each student generated an idea, then used the Business Model Canvas established a business model to develop their idea into a full-fledged business opportunity.

After students finalized their business model, they were assigned to develop a formal business plan.  These documents averaged 12 pages and articulated the structure and development of each student's business plan.

Our Donegal High School Guidance Dept. sent out flyers to the business department that communicated the Junior League of Lancaster Business Plan Competition for high school girls.  Naturally, many girls, eying the $1,000 grand prize, wanted to participate.  Business plans from around the county were submitted and 10 finalists were chosen to participate in Round 2 of the competition.  It is with great honor that I can announce, Alexis Weber, as one of the 10 finalists.

We are so excited for Alexis and can't wait to her how Round 2 goes.  Join us in wishing Alexis luck for Round 2 of the competition.  Regardless of the outcome, we are all so very proud of Alexis for what she has already accomplished!

Donegal Class of 1991 Fundraiser

The Donegal High School Class of 1991 will be hosting an all-day scholarship fundraiser at Hoss’s in Elizabethtown on March 20, 2012. This event will raise funds so at least one scholarship can be presented to a deserving 2012 DHS graduating senior who will further his/her education in one of the following areas (Music, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, Agriculture or Veterinary Medicine).

The Scholarship Committee is hoping to raise $1,000 or more from this fundraiser.  This scholarship is being presented in memory of Corey Halterman, a 1991 graduate of DHS, who passed away last fall. Corey’s love for music, culinary arts and 4-H helped guide committee members in developing the criteria for this scholarship.

Hoss’s will donate 20% of each total check to the scholarship fund. Each patron is asked to bring a ticket (see attached flyer) with them to the restaurant.

The Future Business Leaders are at it again.  Sixteen high school students qualified for the State Leadership Conference by participating (and placing) in competitive events.
